" Helping Parents Raise Healthy Smilers "
It is generally recommended that a child have his first dental check-up by the age of two. However, if you or your child's physician see anything unusual or have questions regarding oral health, we are happy to see children of any age.
We try to make the first visit to our office a fun and educational experience. Very young patients are usually examined with mom or dad present. Their mouth is checked for tooth decay or other problems. The parent is shown how to properly care for their child's teeth, and any questions are answered.
We prefer that children aged 4 years and older go to the treatment room alone. This encourages independence and in most cases better cooperation and attention. The older children are shown how all the instruments work, in a non-threatening manner. We attempt to explain to them how cavities are caused and how they can help fight gum and tooth disease by brushing properly. Parents however, are welcome in treatment rooms if necessary.
Try to make dental visits an important adventure for your child. Tell them the dentist is a friendly doctor who will help them keep their teeth and mouth healthy. Talk about the visit in a positive way.
A child's first visit to the dentist makes a lasting impression. It is hard to not fear the dentist when your first visit is made because of a toothache or other emergency. That is why we encourage starting dental visits at on early age. You will help build a lifetime of good dental habits.
